Book Synopsis
This biographical catalogue of Michael Cardew's first apprentice who went on to be a fine thrower in his own right, particularly of jug forms, uses direct quotes from the potter to bring alive the pioneering earthenware pottery that was Winchcombe under Cardew in the late 1920s and 1930s. His post WW2 career as production thrower for Ray Finch during the trials and tribulations of the 1950s, moving across to stoneware in the 1960s and 1970s similarly provides a snapshot of a classic studio pottery of the period.
